I am a scrapbooker at heart, but I do love to get my hands messy and do a little bit of mixed media every now and then ... ok, more often than not, mostly because I love all the textures and colours as well as getting to play with the myriad of products available to create these projects. Hence this wooden canvas, using texture paste, crackle paste and ink sprays.
I used a piece of wood for this project, first running quite a thick layer of texture paste through a stencil in order to create height and lots of grooves for the ink sprays to run through. Once the texture paste was dry, I placed the stencil back into the grooves and ran a thin layer of Distress crackle paint through the stencil on top of the texture paste.
The chipboard cogs were given an "old" look with Finnabair rust pastes (brown, turquoise and copper).
I did add a bit of turquoise paint at accent points (under some of the metal embellishments), spraying it with water so that the paint with dilute and run down.
If this is not something that you have never done before or perhaps have even been too petrified to try it, I hope that you will also get a chance to step out of your comfort zone and get your hands a little dirty. Give it a try - it can be a lot of fun! Till next time.
